Beetroot Glycerite

Beetroot Glycerite

Beetroot is a delicious root vegetable, but have you ever wondered about the skin benefits?

Beetroot is high in Vitamin C, some of the skin benefits include:

protect from signs of ageing,

Fights acne,

Increase collagen protection,

Makes the skin glow,

Brightens the lips and

protects skin from UV rays of the sun.

You can replace Glycerine in your DIY recipes with your Beetroot glycerite to add the extra benefits of beetroot and that amazing colour!
Ingredients we will be working with today are:
Glass jar
Beetroot
Glycerine
  1. Making sure your work area and jars are clean and sanitised. (You can put jars in the oven at any 170 ºC for 60 min (first having removed the insulating rubber bands).
  2. I like to use herbs, plants or fruit that are growing in my garden. I clean and dry them. But if you are buying them, please make sure they are organic and pesticide-free.
  3. Today we are using beetroot for the beautiful colour and the skin benefits. Please see my other blog post on the benefits of beetroot in your skincare.
  4. Weigh your beetroot you want 30 percent and 70 percent of glycerine. Label your container making sure to add the date. Shake it.
  5. Leave it to infuse for 1-2 weeks shaking every day.
  6. Then time to strain through a sieve lined with muslin or cheesecloth. Again, make sure sieve and cloth are clean. Now you have a DIY beetroot glycerite. This will last 1-2 years.

Please note a professional-standard glycerite using vacuum filtration method would be needed for making any glycerite aimed at commercial use. Also, make sure there is no residue of botanical material in the strained glycerite to ensure no mould growth.
